Fresh out of university and having just completed my capstone film that had elements of 2D animation, this project was a delightful challenge. I was approached to create an animated commercial for RPS Biologiques’ product Supratect which is a veterinary product made to support fish health. I wanted to show its benefits in a fun way and use a cat to emphasis the ‘fish are friends, not food’ feeling.
The story is about a pet cat who notices that the fish in the aquarium look sad and depressed. It then remembers that there is a something that can help its friends. In the initial iterations, it grabs the Supratect bottle and dives into the aquarium to help its friends. But to keep things short and sweet, little catto didn't become a scuba diver in the final product though it's an idea that I still love.
I kept the design simple and used a minimal colour palette as frame by frame animation was (and still is) a medium I wasn’t comfortable with. But it’s something I really enjoy so I was ecstatic when I was trusted with this project!
